Can You Compete with Online Estate Agents?

Homeowners have hinted at the beginning of a sea-change when it comes to the way they choose to market their properties, with a third now claiming they are likely to consider using an online agent when they decide to sell up.

Currently, online estate agencies account for around 1 in 100 home sales – but, if figures from online agents House Network are to be believed, internet only property marketing firms  could soon be responsible for a third of the market.

Consumers are Social Media Savvy

Of course, with an estimated nine out of ten home searches now starting on the internet, and consumers who are often very social media savvy, it is no surprise that sellers will seek out new media when it comes to marketing – but why the sudden shift in perception for what is currently a niche part of the property marketing industry?

The same survey indicates that sellers will be motivated by a range of perceived benefits from online estate agents – from reduced costs to increased online exposure – with homeowners no longer particularly concerned over the provision of services such as accompanied viewings.

However, some industry pundits have urged caution, claiming that cut-price internet agencies may not be able to offer the same level of expertise as established traditional firms.

Agents Need a Credible Online Presence

What is clear, however, is that the market is shifting – and agents who want to keep up with client demands will need to ensure that they have a credible presence on the world wide web.

High street property marketing companies who want to be able to combine their expertise with a competitive internet service will need to show themselves to have good new media knowledge – with active and engaging social media profiles, businesslike blogs and a well designed website – all of which Photoplan can help with!
